Leominster Youth Robotics currently offers two
different programs, depending on the grade of the participant.
FLL - First Lego League - Grades 4-8
FLL is a result of an exciting alliance between
FIRST and the
LEGO Company.
Guided by adult mentors and their own imaginations, FLL students solve
real-world engineering challenges, develop important life skills, and learn
to make positive contributions to society. This program is for
grades 4-8. As members of FLL Teams,
students learn to program and build robots using the LEGO NXT Controller
kit to perform tasks. Students are given the opportunity to design, build,
and program a robot using LEGO bricks, sensors, motors, and gears. This
gives the team members hands-on experience in basic engineering and
computer programming. All Leominster Youth Robotics FLL teams will
require a minimum of 6 students.
VEX Robotic Competition - Grades 6-8
The Vex Robotics is a kit to introduce students to advanced
robotics and engineering. The Vex Robotics Design
System allows students to program the microcontroller
with the "easy C" programming language.
Students compete head to head with other robotic teams
on a game floor to score more points than their opponet
in an exciting game. The VEX robots can run in autonomous mode or with
remote controlled input. This program is for students in grades 6-8.
The teams will receive
direction from a mentor/coach.
Innovation
First holds the trademark for VEX Robotics and
manages all tournaments.
