2006-2007

For the first year of the program, we were called the "Samoset Robotics Club".  Practices were held in Samoset Middle School.  There were four FLL teams in this first season:

  • Junior Devil Dawgs
  • Raytheon Rebels
  • Robo Freaks
  • Robo Monkeys

Each team consisted of 5 to 10 students and mentor(s).  The theme for the 2006 challenge was Nanotechnology.

2007-2008

In the second year of the program, we expanded to Fallbrook and Southeast Elementary Schools.  The FLL theme was on renewable energy use and the challenge was called Power Puzzle.

Leominster High School's FRC team - Devil Dawgs - hosted its first FLL tournament, Blue Thunder.

The program was changed to "Leominster Robotics" to encompass the
                                entire community.

2008-2009

This was a banner year for Leominster Robotics.   The program now had representatives from all of the city's elementary and middle schools.  The Leominster Robotics headquarters was moved to the Gallagher building.

The FLL theme was Climate Connections - building a global game plan.    There were more FLL teams this season, and one of them represented Massachusetts at the FIRST World Championship in Atlanta.

Older students were interested in more robotic action - using remote controls and competing head-to-head.  Leominster Robotics initiated a VEX Robotics program with two teams that had previously been working with FLL.  These students programmed their robots with advanced program commands using easy-C.   The teams competed at two local tournaments and one of the teams advanced to attend the VEX Robotic Championship in Dallas, Texas in April.

2009-2010

Another year of growth for our robotics program!  We officially became a 501(3) (c) non-profit organization and our name was changed to "Leominster Youth RoboticsClean Sweep, Inc." (LYR).  The FLL program sponsored 16 teams this season!  The VEX program continued with one team, who again makes it to the Championship in Dallas, Texas.  LYR began to run summer and school vacation robotics camps, as well as a successful pilot Jr. FLL program in one of the local elementary schools.

 2010-2011

Body ForwardIt's our sixth FLL season, and we have 11 teams competing, with the theme being Body Forward - diving into the world of biomedical engineering.Roundup

Our VEX program has increased in size to six teams.  The challenge this season is called Round Up.

LYR runs its first, full Jr. FLL program this year and hosts a Jr. FLL Expo.

2011-2012

Our history is yet to be written.  Won't you be a part of it?  Our organization keeps growing and we want to be successful this year and for the years to come.
